The IRS FATCA Registration Portal has opened -- but only for demonstration purposes.
The IRS has encouraged FFIs to visit the portal and explore the registration process. However, any information entered or 'submitted' before January 1, 2013 will not be final and will need to be confirmed in 2014.

The IRS has issued Notice 2013-43 that extendes nearly all FATCA implementation deadlines by six months.
With this extension the reference date to establish "pre-existing" and "new" accounts will be come July 1, 2014.

The long awaited final FATCA regulations have been released and will be published in the Federal Register on January 28, 2013.
